This article presents the results of development and implementation of optical electronic systems for non-contact monitoring of geometric parameters and external appearance of small arms ammunition components. A shadow method of inspection is described, enabling measurement of the length, diameter, and runout of the nose section of bullets, cartridge cases, and armor-piercing cores with an accuracy of up to 0.01 mm. For automation of cartridge case visual inspection, an algorithm based on convolutional neural networks is proposed, providing the defect detection efficiency of up to 90%. The systems have undergone testing and are currently used at the domestic industrial facilities.
