In the Russian Federation, a qualitative leap has taken place in the structuring of activities in the field of photonics. However, there are some specific problems that are associated with the production and application of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). In order to systematize the work on the development of photonic elements in accordance with their demand, it is proposed to begin the formation of a nomenclature (terms) for the photonic component base. The arguments substantiating the necessity of the proposed structuring tool are presented in this paper.
